…… VOWS TO UNSEAT SPEAKER MERANDA CLAIMING DUE PROCESS NOT FOLLOWED

……SEEKS ACCELERATED HEARING OF THE SUIT

……. ENGAGES AFOLABI FASHANU SAN TO FILE SUIT

Meeting a dead end in his quest for a political solution to bring about reinstatement back into office, the sacked Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa has filed a suit to quash  his removal from the Office of the Speaker, before an High Court of Lagos State.

Mudashiru Obasa who was removed by 36 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on January 13, whilst he was away in the United States of America on vacation, returned to the country, laying claim to the exalted position.

The Agege based politician having explored and exausted political solutions to his predicament, without a doubt has come out empty handed; with Rt Hon Mojisola Lasbat Meranda from Apapa State Constituency 01 replacing him as Speaker, hence his resort to the Court as a last resort.

Obasa procured the services of an Abeokuta, Ogun State based legal practitioner Chief Afolabi Fashanu SAN to represent him. A move many said affirmed his Ogun State ancestry, as against his recently touted Ojo Lagos ancestry claim.

In desperation Obasa is seeking accelerated hearing and expeditious determination of the suit. He fears the situation where the processes and determination of the suit will be delayed by all the parties involved, hence the additional prayer.

The former Speaker is said to be taking the cue from his counterpart in Ogun State House of Assembly Hon Oluomo, who was removed as Speaker and the Court affirmed that his removal was consistent with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, after a one year legal battle.

Hon Obasa’s handlers have been on overdrive to get him reinstated, but to their discomfort, the Rt Hon Meranda's Speakership has gained total foothold, with virtually all stakeholders units, in the Lagos State Chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, affirming their support for her.

The ensuing legal battle is likely to further polarise the ruling APC in Lagos State ahead of the upcoming local Government elections which is scheduled to take place across the 20 local Governments and 37 LCDA’s .

Legal pundits have observed that the suit filed by Obasa is unmeritorious and dead on arrival and is possibly a political gimmick by Obasa to negotiate a soft landing for himself ahead of the impending investigation of his tenure by the House of Assembly and investigations by the security Agencies.
