PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU GCFR IS CAPABLE OF PROVIDING NATIONAL SECURITY - PCC ASSURES NIGERIANS

The recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern by the Government of the United States of America, together with the isolated episodes of security breaches recorded in some regions, represents a major test of leadership. It is, however, a test that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is fully equipped to overcome as the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

National security occupies a central place in the Renewed Hope agenda. In the 2023 electioneering period, President Tinubu made a clear commitment to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians. The security architecture and reforms already put in place by his administration show his seriousness, preparedness and unwavering resolve to deliver on that commitment.

As Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Tinubu inherited severe security challenges that had overwhelmed several military administrators before him. Through deliberate strategies, intelligence-driven operations and institutional reforms, he transformed Lagos into one of the safest states in Nigeria and the West African subregion. This same firm, detailed and courageous leadership is what he now applies at the national level.

In the nearly three decades that I have worked closely with Asiwaju, I have found him to be a leader who does not resort to showmanship when public safety is involved. He is thorough, decisive and always willing to take the difficult but necessary decisions as permitted by the Constitution. Life is sacred, and Mr President will never permit its destruction without consequence.

The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration has already introduced notable solutions to strengthen the country’s security framework:

1. Approval for the recruitment of 30,000 additional police personnel to boost manpower in the Nigeria Police Force.

2. Creation and strengthening of regional development commissions, ensuring every region receives targeted federal support.

3. Significant increase in federal allocations to states and local governments to empower subnational governments in addressing security needs.

4. Ongoing establishment of Forest and Border Guards, to cut off the movement of terrorists, bandits and smugglers.

5. Increased investment in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technologies, including UAVs and modern communication systems.

6. Revival of diplomatic and security cooperation with the United States and other partners, expanding counter-terrorism support and operational collaboration.

7. The recall of policemen from VIP guard duties, redirecting them to core policing responsibilities to improve community policing, visibility and response time nationwide.

8. Sustaining the nationwide Safe Schools Initiatives to ensure learning environments remain protected and resilient against threats.

9. Seeking a seat on the United Nations Security Council to contribute to designing global security architecture frameworks and strengthening Nigeria’s international security influence.

10. Clearance operations and coordinated joint-force actions in the North-East, North-West and North-Central that have led to the neutralisation of criminal elements and recovery of communities.

11. Renewal of the military procurement pipeline, ensuring equipment acquisition is faster, structured and accountable.

These are not promises. They are visible actions already underway.

My appeal to Nigerians is that this is a time for unity, vigilance and patriotism. Citizens must cooperate with security agencies, share intelligence and report suspicious activities. Criminals such as terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, land grabbers and illegal miners are not spirits; they live among us, and community vigilance is essential in defeating them.

As someone who has lived both in the North and the South, I can say confidently that Nigeria’s greatness lies in its diversity. For decades, we coexisted peacefully as brothers and sisters. We must not allow hateful ideologies, misinformation or prejudice to divide us or push us into conflict. No single narrative must be allowed to cast entire ethnic or religious groups in a negative light.

Let us remain steadfast and united in our resolve.

Long live the people of Nigeria.

Long live Mr President.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Signed:

Abdullahi Ayinde Enilolobo
