THE MANDATE MOVEMENT: UPHOLDS ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU’S LEGACY, NOT OBASA'S INORDINATE AMBITIONS
OBASA! ALARU TO NI KAJE SE OUN PA
The Mandate Movement (TMM), a frontline support group dedicated to the ideals and political projects of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, strongly condemn the misconducts of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, during the presentation of the 2025 Lagos State Budget by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Mandate Movement, expresses disappointment at the Speaker’s actions and words during the session. Instead of focusing on legislative duties that affect the welfare of over 20 million Lagosians, Rt. Hon. Obasa used the occasion to lament his perceived political challenges, threaten perceived detractors, and promote his personal political ambitions.
The Mandate Movement emphasize that it was established solely to support the vision and decisions of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and has never independently sponsored a gubernatorial candidate. The group reiterated its tradition of backing any candidate endorsed by Tinubu and the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC).
Rt. Hon. Obasa’s creation of "The Mudashiru Mandate" (TMM) with the slogan “Muda Eko, Obasa Lagos” is a blatant attempt to confuse the public and usurp the legacy of The Mandate Movement. Obasa knew nothing on the genesis of The Mandate Movement; he's a gatecrasher, an opportunist who has pushed his luck too far.
Obasa’s behavior is summed up in the Yoruba proverb, “Ti ile kan ba n toro, omo ale be ni o ti dagba,” Obasa’s inordinate ambition is akin to the actions of an ingrate child who disregards established norms.
During the budget presentation, Obasa subjected key stakeholders in Lagos State—including members of the GAC, Lagos State APC executives, stakeholders, and the press—to unnecessary delays and disrespect. His actions and those of his handlers demonstrated a lack of decorum, tarnishing the reputation of the Lagos State House of Assembly in the eyes of the world, thereby demarketing the great state of Lagos.
Obasa, who has previously referred to the GAC as “toothless bulldogs,” displayed a troubling level of arrogance, even insinuating that he could govern Lagos State better than Asiwaju Tinubu and past governors. The Mandate Movement condemn this mindset, noting that Obasa is merely the first among equals within the House of Assembly. His speakership is a privilege granted by his peers, not a platform to bully other members or the citizens of Lagos State.
Obasa represents only one of two constituencies in Agege Local Government, yet he has acted as though he is superior to all former governors and public servants in Lagos State. The Mandate Movement reminds him that his position as Speaker does not elevate him above the collective will of Lagosians or the wisdom of the GAC and other stakeholders. The Assembly members’ silence on some of his actions stems not from weakness but from their respect for Tinubu and the GAC.
The Mandate Movement reaffirms its commitment to its founding principles: supporting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision and promoting the welfare of Lagos State residents. The group warns against any attempts to mix personal politicking with governance, Obasa’s inglorious actions are not in line with the traditions of The Mandate Movement.
We call on Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa to refocus on his legislative duties and abandon his divisive and self-serving tactics. Lagos State deserves leaders who prioritize the collective good over personal ambition, and we pledge to continue supporting those who uphold the values and vision of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
