Deji Ajare, a notable human rights lawyer, has requested that Umar Yusuf, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, initiate the process of impeachment against Usman Ododo, who is currently serving as the Governor of the state.
This request was made in a formal letter, specifically highlighting significant charges of wrongdoing and misuse of office against the governor.
The letter draws attention to a specific instance that involves Governor Ododo's alleged role in assisting the former governor, Yahaya Bello, in evading arrest by utilising the official motorcade of the governor.
As far as Ajare is concerned, this action constitutes a blatant obstacle to the administration of justice and an inappropriate use of state resources.
An event that was reported by The Punch is the source of the dispute.
According to the story, Governor Ododo is believed to have assisted his predecessor in evading detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Bello was wanted by the Commission in connection with a significant money laundering investigation that included ₦84.2 billion.
Ajare has emphasised how important it is for the state legislature to collaborate with the EFCC in order to ensure that all people who are suspected of involvement are made available for in-depth interrogation and inquiry.
As a result of the alleged violations committed by Governor Ododo, he has advocated for the House of Assembly to take immediate and decisive action, as well as requested that a comprehensive inquiry be conducted into the allegations.
