The National Legal Adviser Of The Labour Party, Mr Kehinde Edun has poured out his opinions concerning the unending conflict with the Labour Party and the Nigeria Labour Congress. According to recent reports, the Labour Party has threatened to take the Nigeria Labour Congress to court over their ongoing conflicts concerning the management and ownership of the Political Party.
Kehinde Edun has clearly stated that the Nigeria Labour Congress has absolutely no power to do anything with the Labour Party. He made it crystal clear that an association like the NLC has no right to claim sole ownership of the Labour Party. While addressing this matter, he claimed that only individuals and members can be part of the Labour Party and not an association.
The Labour Party Legal Adviser discarded the claim that his party was founded and registered by the Nigeria Labour Congress. According to him, Individuals and promoters were the ones who registered the party because it is unconstitutional for an association like NLC to register a political party.
Quoting some of his statements in an interview he had with Arise News Television today, he said: "NLC is powerless to do anything with the Labour Party, they have no powers and no locus to even interfere with the running affairs of the Labour Party. As far back as 3rd September 2015, INEC wrote to the Labour Party that was led by Comrade Ayuba Wabba. I said that the commission had revealed the documents and records pertaining to the Labour Party in the custody of the INEC and the membership of the Labour Party. In article one and article nine of Labour Party's constitution 2009 doesn't confer any special or superior status of the NLC.
The NLC didn't register the Labour Party, that is not true, no association can register a political party our laws wouldn't permit it, and the INEC wouldn't have registered the Political Party. It was individuals and promoters who registered the Labour Party."
