MARVELLOUS GODWIN REPLACES PHILLIP SHAIBU AS EDO DEPUTY GOVERNOR

 

Governor Godwin Obaseki nominated Labour Party House of Representatives. candidate, in the 2023 general elections Mr Omobayo Marvellous Godwin as being sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Edo State 

His nomination comes hours after Philip Shaibu's impeachment as the Edo State Deputy Governor by the State House of Assembly .

Godwins 38 hails from Akoko-Edo, Edo North Senatorial District.

Shaibu’s impeachment came after the State Assembly adopted the report of a seven-man panel that investigated allegations of misconduct against him.

The panel, led by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, held its inaugural sitting last Wednesday in Benin, concluding on Friday after Shaibu or his counsel failed to appear to defend the allegations.

Despite being given multiple opportunities to respond to the accusations, Shaibu did not attend the hearings, prompting the House of Assembly to proceed with the case.

Shaibu’s counsel, Oladoyin Awoyale, initially attended the inaugural sitting but later withdrew from the proceedings after the panel declined his request to suspend the hearings pending the outcome of a suit filed in Abuja challenging Shaibu’s impeachment
