President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the creation of a Social Security Unemployment Programme aimed at alleviating economic hardship among Nigerian youths.
The initiative, announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, follows directives from President Tinubu during a Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
The programme seeks to provide financial support to unemployed graduates and youths, addressing the challenges posed by heightened food prices and economic adjustments.
Additionally, plans are underway for a Consumer Credit Scheme to further ease economic burdens by making goods more affordable and stimulating purchasing power.
Edun emphasized the government's commitment to empathy and support for those most affected by economic challenges, highlighting the importance of initiatives like the Social Security Unemployment Programme and the Consumer Credit Scheme in revitalizing the economy.
Furthermore, a review of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) has been conducted by a special presidential panel, focusing on existing mechanisms and programmes.
Successes such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), benefiting 400,000 individuals, were acknowledged during the review.
