ALGERIA SHOPS FOR JOSE PESEIRO

The Algeria Football Federation is interested in naming the Portuguese coach as head coach of their national team; therefore, the Algeria national football team may be Jose Peseiro's next destinations.

The Nigerian national team's contract with the former Porto manager expired at the end of the AFCON, but it's unclear if the NFF wants to renew it.

In May 2022, Peseiro was named head coach of the Super Eagles.

Since then, the 63-year-old has overseen 22 games, with a record of 10 victories, 5 draws, and 7 losses.

The most heartbreaking of the defeats occurred on Sunday in Abidjan when the AFCON title was won by hosts Cote d'Ivoire over Nigeria 2-1.

Peseiro has gradually become one of the most appreciated coaches on the continent by guiding Nigeria's Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire this month.

The Portuguese tactician is Algeria's top pick following his accomplishments at the AFCON.

The FAF has also put 60-year-old Swiss Vladimir Petkovic and former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz on its wish list of candidates.

Algeria defeated Nigeria in the semifinals to win the 2019 AFCON. Nevertheless, the Fennec Foxes have lost all six of their recent games in the competition and were eliminated in the group stage of the 2021 and 2023 competitions.

Walid Sadi, the manager of Algeria FF, is allegedly in contact with Peseiro, but the Portuguese strategist is holding off to get clarification over his position with the Nigeria Football Federation.
