Morocco will host the 35th edition
of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Executive Committee
has announced.
The decision was taken during the
meeting of the CAF Executive Committee on Wednesday.
The North African country will be
hosting Africa’s flagship event for the second time; 35 years after the country
staged the competition in 1988.
This came as a result of well-coordinated
campaign backed by good facilities and excellent organizational ability of the
Kingdom of Morocco.
The North African country was a
runaway favourite and as CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe remarked in a post
announcement conference, “It will also boost the African candidacy, which
Morocco represents, in the hosting of the 2030 World Cup.
Morocco is part of the triple bid
that has Spain and Portugal. So the award of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will
see the decision as a boost to their hopes of co-hosting the 2030 World Cup
with Portugal and Spain.
