RESIDENTS MEETS LAGOS MINISTRY OVER LEKKI TRANSPORT CHALLENGES

9th of February 2024, the executive council of the Lekki Estates Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA), led by its President, Alhaji Sulyman Bello, alongside Baales Oloye Mustapha Okunmoyinbo of Alasia and Oloye Bashir Arowolo Afolami of Oroke, engaged in a pivotal meeting with the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, at Alausa, Lagos State. This meeting aimed to address and propose solutions to the transportation challenges affecting the Lekki Peninsula.

During the comprehensive discussion, LERSA outlined critical areas for improvement in traffic management and enforcement to mitigate traffic offenses and enhance overall transportation efficiency. Mr. Femi Oke, Chairman of the LERSA Transportation Committee, emphasized the need for specialized enforcement teams in construction zones, peak time management squads, and the deployment of monster trucks for towing obstructive vehicles, especially in strategic areas like the Lekki Port and Refinery. Additionally, he advocated for zonal patrol units, an increase in transportation personnel, and the exploration of alternative transportation methods such as rail and water transport. A notable suggestion was the installation of truck barriers on the Jubilee bridge and the use of technology, such as cameras, to monitor and penalize traffic violators.

In response, Honourable Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi provided insightful feedback on each issue, detailing the state's efforts to address these challenges and improve the living standards within the Lekki Peninsula and Lagos at large. His commitment to actionable solutions highlighted the government's dedication to making Lagos a model state for others to emulate.

The meeting concluded with remarks from Mr. Yomi Benson, LERSA's Communications Chairman, who expressed gratitude towards the Commissioner and his team for their continuous efforts and the importance of ongoing dialogue between LERSA and the Lagos State Government.
