SOLDIERS TAKE OVER IKORO EKITI OVER MONARCH'S KILLING

Security forces have taken control of Ikoro Ekiti town in Kwara State after the tragic killing of Onikoro, Oba Segun Aremu, in his palace. The monarch was shot dead, and his wife along with two neighbors were abducted.

To ensure the safety of residents, police, Nigerian Army personnel, and other security agents have surrounded the area. They are conducting stop-and-search operations without harassing passersby. The security presence, including an Armoured Personnel Carrier, aims to prevent further incidents.

A local resident, who preferred not to disclose his name for security reasons offered that the joint unit of police, soldiers, local vigilante groups, and hunters are combing the town's forests to apprehend bandits or kidnappers and potentially rescue victims.

The late monarch's immediate brother revealed in a phone interview on Friday that the town had been facing bandit terror for years, leading many residents to abandon their farms to avoid attacks.

The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, stated in a press release that an investigation has commenced, assuring the public of the intention to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the monarch's killing.

The murdered Onikoro was a retired General in the Nigerian Army.
